Honduran costumbrismo: scenes of daily life
Enmanuel Membreño's costumbrismo portrays daily life in Honduras: markets, rural trades, the Lenca and Garifuna communities, country childhood and the customs passed down from one generation to the next. The people in these scenes are real: Enmanuel photographs them and later brings them to the canvas, so each painting keeps a natural, unposed gesture. For more than three decades, his painting has pursued the same goal: that Honduran culture can be recognized in every work. All of them are original oil paintings made in Honduras.
